Ireland were crowned European Mid-Amateur Men’s Team Champions in Austria.
The win capped a phenomenal year for Irish teams after the men’s European success in Estonia and the men’s and women’s Home Internationals victory at Woodbrook.
The women lost their bronze medal match to France, but Damien Coyne’s side beat hosts Austria in the final at Föhrenwald Golf Club.
Carton House’s Keith Egan and Co Louth’s Gerard Dunne won their morning foursomes 3&2, while Fota Island’s David Howard and Athenry’s David Kitt lost the other.
Egan then claimed a resounding 5&4 win, Dunne missed out, and Howard secured the win with a 2&1 victory.
“Delighted with the win, really good performance from the lads all day,” said Coyne.
“To get a second European title in the bag this week has been exceptional; it’s the end of a really, really good year in the European team events.”
