All Ireland Mary McKenna Diamond Trophy Tournament hosted by Woodenbridge Golf Club enjoyed another successful final on Sunday September 14th 2025
The legacy of Mary McKenna MBE on Irish golf and her continued influence and involvement in ladies golf, emphasizes her role as an inspiration for senior women golfers.
The Mary McKenna Diamond Trophy is an all-Ireland competition which promotes competitive dynamics between the four provinces and the unique opportunity for clubs from different regions to meet and compete. The Scotch Foursomes Matchplay format adds a strategic and collaborative element to the competition for Lady golfers over 60 with 95 clubs participating in its ninth year. The four 2025 finalists were Castlebar Golf Club Connacht, Carton House Golf Club Leinster, Charleville Golf Club Munster and Belvoir Park Golf Club Ulster.
The draw took place for the two semifinals at the opening ceremony Friday evening . On Saturday in bright sunny fresh weather Castlebar emerged beating Belvoir Park 3 -2. And the second finalist was Carton House with a nail biting finish on the 20th hole to win.
In the final played in atrocious conditions all five matches could have gone either way. The third-place playoff resulted in a win for Belvoir Park Golf Club (Ulster) over Charleville Golf Club (Munster). Castlebar Golf Club were crowned 2025 All Ireland champions in a very competitive match against Carton House. The high standard of golf was worthy of an All Ireland over the two days from all four teams. All players showed resilience and skill in the way they managed the challenging weather conditions on Sunday.
Mary McKenna attended the matches all weekend and all the ladies were thrilled and honoured to be in her company. The finale of the event was a gala dinner where Woodenbridge Golf Club hosted all four teams, attended by Mary McKenna MBE and our treasured sponsors Catherine and Don Arnold from Nurse On Call, Woodenbridge Hotel & Lodge & Cassidy Wines, whose sponsorship and support make the tournament such a success. The four teams celebrated having a fun evening and many new friendships and “Party pieces” were forged over the weekend. We would also like to thank Declan and Andrew and the team from Links Catering for their lovely food and hospitality.
Lady Captain of Woodenbridge Golf Club Pauline Smith, commented “The members of Woodenbridge Golf Club are very proud to host this prestigious event in the golfing calendar along with the J B Carr Diamond Trophy for men over 60. Woodenbridge is a gem of a golf course in south Wicklow since 1884, and has a rich heritage and beauty which our members and many visitors love and enjoy.
