To mark the 100th anniversary of Macroom Golf Club, the Ladies Centenary Scratch Cups were held in fine style, drawing a large field of competitors from near and far, for a truly memorable event. With full timesheets a friendly yet competitive atmosphere, the competition was a fitting celebration of a historic milestone for the club.  The Ladies Senior Scratch Cup (Handicap <12) proved especially popular, played on the newly rated Green/Red course with a Course Rating of 74.1 and a Slope Rating of 133. Despite a breeze that challenged the field throughout the day, conditions remained fair and the competition intense. The highlight of the day came from the winner Paula Walsh of Doneraile & Cork Golf Clubs, who etched her name into club history by setting the new Green/Red course record of level par 72 gross, a remarkable achievement. Her steady play and composure in testing conditions saw her emerge as the overall winner. Her score will surely stand as a tough benchmark for future events.  The Intermediate Scratch Cup (Handicap Index 12.1-24.0) was played from the regular Red Markers, with a Course Rating of 70.7 and a Slope Rating of 128. The winner of this category was Catherine Kavanagh of Mitchlestown Golf Club with an 88 gross. Players relished the competitive yet friendly atmosphere, and the course played beautifully. One of the most memorable moments of the day came courtesy of Lillian Harrington of East Cork Golf Club, who scored a sensational hole-in-one on the 2nd hole, securing her place as the clear Nearest the Pin winner. Her ace added a touch of magic to an already special occasion.  Although the skies were slightly overcast, the rain largely held off, creating good playing conditions for most of the day. The course was in top condition, and the lively buzz among competitors and supporters alike reflected the spirit of celebration surrounding the centenary.  The success of the Ladies Centenary Scratch Cups would not have been possible without the very generous sponsorship of John & Ber O’Shea of John O’Shea Electrical, whose support added greatly to the prestige of the event. Both were present on the day to present prizes and join in the celebration of this historic occasion. The Macroom Ladies Centenary Scratch Cups delivered top class golf, unforgettable moments, and a perfect tribute to 100 years of history at Macroom Golf Club. The club really appreciated the support from all the competitors and congratulations to all the winners of both the gross and nett prizes. Here’s to the next 100 years!
