Mallorca venue to host HotelPlanner Tour season-ending showpiece for fifth year in a row as Road to Mallorca reaches dramatic conclusion
Club de Golf Alcanada is preparing to welcome the 2026 Grand Final supported by the R&A, with the HotelPlanner Tour’s season-ending showpiece now just weeks away.
Taking place from October 29 to November 1, the prestigious Mallorca venue will host the grand final for a fifth consecutive year and sixth time overall, as the Road to Mallorca reaches its decisive stage and players compete for their place in the season finale.
Formerly known as the Challenge Tour, the HotelPlanner Tour is Europe’s leading development circuit, performing a role similar to that of the Korn Ferry Tour in the United States as the primary pathway to the DP World Tour. The scale of the season finale will be reflected on screens around the world, with live television coverage of all four days at Alcanada broadcast globally through partners including Sky Sports, Golf Channel and Canal+.
With 28 tournaments across 19 countries and three continents forming this year’s Road to Mallorca, the closing stages of the season will determine the 45 players who qualify for the final event. For those who make the field, Alcanada will represent the final opportunity to secure one of 15 coveted DP World Tour cards and take the next step in their professional careers. Last year’s grand final field featured players from 17 different nationalities, underlining the truly international make-up of the Road to Mallorca, and a similarly diverse line-up is expected to arrive in Mallorca again this November.
With two counting events still to play, Sweden’s Christofer Blomstrand currently leads the Road to Mallorca Rankings, ahead of MJ Daffue, Julien Sale and Pablo Ereño in the provisional top four. Also occupying qualifying positions are former DP World Tour winners David Horsey, Matthew Southgate and Chris Wood, alongside Marc Warren and Barclay Brown, as an in-form group of players push to confirm their place among the 45 heading to Mallorca.
First hosting the grand final in 2019, Alcanada has established a strong association with the HotelPlanner Tour’s season finale, having welcomed the event every year since 2022. The venue has also provided a significant springboard for recent champions, with each of the latest winners subsequently progressing to the DP World Tour.
James Morrison produced one of the defining moments of last year’s finale, securing victory at Alcanada to complete a memorable return to the DP World Tour. JC Ritchie finished top of the Road to Mallorca Rankings, while 2023 champion Marco Penge has since gone on to establish himself among the leading players on the DP World Tour.
Penge followed his victory at Alcanada with a standout 2025 campaign, winning three DP World Tour titles and finishing second to Rory McIlroy in the Race to Dubai Rankings Delivered by DP World. His performances also earned him the Seve Ballesteros Award as the 2025 Player of the Year, highlighting the opportunities that can follow success at the HotelPlanner Tour’s season finale.
The grand final’s roll of honour stretches back to 1995 and includes several players who went on to make a significant impact on the world stage. Henrik Stenson lifted the title in 2000 before going on to win The Open Championship and rise to world number two, while past champions such as Richard Bland, Andrea Pavan and 2018 winner Adri Arnaus have gone on to enjoy long, successful careers on the DP World Tour, a reminder of the calibre of player the HotelPlanner Tour and its season finale continue to produce.
Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jnr, Alcanada’s par-72 layout will provide a demanding setting for the final event of the season. Mallorca’s only true coastal course, the layout stretches towards the Mediterranean Sea and the island’s iconic Alcanada lighthouse, combining panoramic views with a challenging tournament test.
Fast greens, strategically positioned bunkers and exposed coastal winds will place a premium on accuracy and composure, with the course set to provide a fitting examination as the pressure reaches its highest point of the season.
Kristoff Both, director of golf at Club de Golf Alcanada, said: “It is a tremendous honour for Alcanada to host the grand final for the sixth time and fifth consecutive year. The tournament has become an important part of the club’s identity, and we are proud to once again provide the stage for players competing to progress to the DP World Tour.
“With the Road to Mallorca now entering its final stages, the anticipation is building around who will make the field and arrive in Mallorca with the opportunity to secure their card. The 15 DP World Tour cards make for an extremely competitive finale, and we look forward to another memorable week of golf at Alcanada.”
Since opening in 2003, Club de Golf Alcanada has established itself as one of Spain’s premier golfing destinations. Alongside its championship pedigree, the course remains one of the Mediterranean’s most sought-after venues for members and visiting golfers alike.
